To provide sail training opportunities for young people without discrimination in accordance with Royal Yachting Association guidelines for youth training. The aim is to enable young people to obtain Royal Yachting Association qualifications and to acquire strength of character, experience of leadership and knowledge of the sea and seamanship.

The Hardiesse is registered (number 362405) on the British Register under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. She is certified as a small commercial sailing vessel by the YDSA and is subject to an annual inspection by a marine surveyor.
The ship is also a Recognised Teaching Establishment under the rules of the RYA (Royal yachting Association) and subject to an annual inspection by the RYA. Insurance policies are maintained for marine risks and for the equipment used on board and during winter maintenance.
